Kennel Seamist >30 years
When I was a teenager
my family purchase a collie-"Mic". To train animals
was my great interest ,but Mic thought life was to eat and sleep.
A few years later I went over to England to be a kennelmaid for Mrs.Chatfield
at Kennel Dunsinane. When I returned home I had a 5 month old puppy with me,
she was the direct opposite to Mic. She had a real taste for work and a will
to please, which were above the average. But she never got used to life outside
a kennel and was too insecure to be competition dog.
After two further summers in England I came home with a “two year old dog,who I saved from a not so perfect life with a couple of pensioners. He was a solid dog, but he didn´t think training was much fun. Even when he had a couple of bangers thrown at him he was not afraid. His father was Ch.Defender of Dunsinane and his grandfather Ch. Mywicks Meadow Lancer – 2 very famous stud dogs in the1950´s. That says a lot about the stability in the collies at that point in time.
I started to understand that there was a genetic background to mentality among dogs that wasn´t easy to influence.
In 1967 I moved to England. I missed my dogs so I asked Mrs.Chatfield to borrow a dog and that´s when I met my dream collie – Moon Fantasy of Dunsinane “Fancy”, but she wasn´t for sale. Until two years later when I returned to Sweden she was able to follow with me. She was then 3 years old and united strong nerves with a will to please and object intrest which were way above those I had met in collies. This is despite the fact that she was a kennel dog with no experience of the outside world.

I saw directly that it
would be impossible to find another dog like Fancy – so this was my
motivation to have pups by her – and there started my intrest for breeding.
Fancy had a litter 1972 – when Int.Nord.Ch.Korad Seamist Silver-So-Sweet
“Candy” was born – who is still the most allround
qualified collie in Sweden. She was awarded a diploma for 7 mental tested
progency – which is very unusual. She was advanced to elite class in
Search. At last I had a dog who loved to train – we started to compete
in the spring and already by the autumn she had advanced to elite class.
In 1973 I took the name SEAMIST as my kennel name – my husband is a seaman and we live by the sea.
Seamist Liquorice Candy ”Liza” (owner:-Ionie and Alf Oskarson, Kennel Mosstrooper) Silver-So-Sweet´s daughter was born 1974. Liza had great will to work. She was Korad and competed in elite class search. I had the privilege to use her twice for breeding. I kept to myself a bitch out of both litters which I outcrossed so as to begin to linebreed.

I 1976 imported a sabel bitch from England – N.U.Ch.Johrenda Secret Gift. She was the mother of two International Champions – Seamist Summer Storm and Seamist Symphony In Gold.

One of the “Liza daughters” produced with Summer Storm, Seamist Sailor´s Sweetheart. She in turn was mated with Finnish owned English import Int.N.FIN.Ch. Antoc Gary Glitter.

From that litter I kept the dog S.U.Ch.Seamist Stray Cat. He became father to two working dog champions and grandfather to two, including one smooth. Many of his children and grandchildren have taken part in working dog elite class trials in spite of the fact that he was used sparingly in breeding. His litter brother S.N.U.Ch.Seamist Steely Dan has left very highly merited offspring in both the show ring and the trial field.

Another “Liza daughter” Seamist Suger Frosting had with S.U.Ch. S.B.Ch .S.L.Ch.Speedlines Black Pepper, S.U.Ch.Seamist Shining Diamond. She advanced up to elite class tracking before she was 2 years old.

Now was the time to line breed on my bitch line. Stray Cat was mated with Shining Diamond – the result was four puppies. I kept the tricolour bitch Seamist Semicat. She became S.B.Ch. S.U.Ch. plus many other honours. Her brother Seamist Sweeper Cat is the father ,amongst others to the smooth S.B.Ch. S.U.Ch. Korad, Gemdales Careless Charlie.

The border to Finland had been closed for some years because of rabies, but it was now open again, so I started to look in that direction. A dog that impressed me greatly was Multi.Ch. Nittykasteen Sensaatio, but because of his age I used two of his sons.
I kept from Jahkkas Icebreaker daughter Korad, Seamist Solitude. Her sister Seamist Sinfonia is approved in upper class tracking and their brother Seamist Spartacus is approved in elite class search and upper class tracking.
From the litter with
S.FIN.Ch. Zinnias The Original I kept Seamist Spot-On.
She was advanced to upper class tracking when she was only 20 months old,
she also has two C.C.´s and one CACIB from the show ring. Her brothers
Seamist Strongheart has advanced to lower class tracking
and her brother Seamist Spitfire to upper class search.
The dogs from those two litters I have had from Semicat are still young and
not yet fully merited.
In Finland I saw two USA imports that impressed me a lot. Both were from Barksdale Kennel and owned by Kennel Snowpaw. Because the elder was drawing his old age pension I used the younger FIN.Ch. Hawkeire´s Spirit O´Barksdale on both my Semicat daughters. I have kept from there the bitch puppy Seamist Snowstar, who is a daughter to Spot-On.
